Enphase Expanding its 12-Year Partnership with GRID Alternatives

Partnership with GRID Alternatives

We’re excited to share that Enphase Energy has renewed and expanded its partnership with GRID Alternatives, the largest nonprofit installer of renewable energy that is focused on expanding access to reliable and affordable clean energy.  In addition to the industry-leading microinverters that Enphase has been supplying to GRID since 2012, we will now provide Enphase IQ Batteries and electric vehicle (EV) chargers to select GRID projects. The products will help further the nonprofit’s important work of bringing energy resilience and clean transportation to economic and environmental justice communities with the mission to achieve an equitable energy transition.

Making sure that every person has clean transportation solutions – regardless of whether they rent or own a home, bike, drive or take public transportation – is essential for environmental and economic justice. Increasing access to EVs and EV charging infrastructure is a major element of GRID’s work in this area. Enphase chargers will be used in GRID’s Clean Mobility programs. These programs provide residential charging stations to eligible consumers, as well as support for public charging for renters and other EV drivers who are unable to charge at home.

As climate change-induced extreme weather and wildfires increase in frequency, GRID is also working to bring no-cost battery storage technology to Californians most affected by power outages and public safety power shutoffs. Power shutoffs can have devastating impacts on families and disproportionately affect vulnerable populations, such as underserved and Tribal communities. With Enphase battery storage systems, households can store solar energy for the next grid outage or for when electricity prices are high so they can keep their lights on and bills lower with clean power. Building resilient energy infrastructure is integral to the wellbeing of communities, especially those who are disproportionately affected by the impacts of climate change.

Reflecting on our partnership, GRID Alternative’s co-founder and CEO, Erica Mackie said, "We are so grateful for the long-standing partnership with Enphase that has supported our work to bring renewable energy solutions to environmental and economic justice communities. With the expansion of our partnership, Enphase is providing us with batteries and EV chargers that will allow GRID to increase our clean energy offerings and, in turn, continue to make a measurable difference in the lives of individuals and communities across the country."

Enphase has worked with GRID Alternatives as a philanthropic partner since 2010 and as a major national equipment partner since 2012. Our joint efforts have resulted in nearly 9,500 solar installations in underserved communities and communities of color. That’s more than 38.5 megawatts of solar power! These installations will see an estimated lifetime savings of more than $273 million and will avert nearly 634,000 tons of greenhouse gas emissions. Our partnership has also provided job trainees and volunteers with more than 564,000 hours of solar education and training.
