Solar has come a long way, and while still in its infancy, it’s growing up in a way scarcely imagined a decade ago. This year marks an inflection point, where solar will start being seen as part of a larger story of energy experiences. The integration of solar plus storage, smart home devices, energy management systems, and the smart grid will change the way energy is used in the future in ways that will be barely recognizable to us today.

The rise of solar over the past 10 years, in the U.S. and many parts of the world, has been nothing short of phenomenal. What started as a niche technology has grown into a mainstream source of energy. Dramatic cost declines have led to an equally dramatic increase in the use of solar. We’ve seen the cost of solar panels go down more than 75% and the amount of solar deployment grow exponentially, in the neighborhood of 40X over the course of a decade.
