Here’s what we’re working on and thinking about at Enphase.

Let’s face it, everything these days is made to break.  Longevity is an elusive concept when it comes to products in the household — computers, AC units, plumbing, ceiling fans, barbecue grills, automobiles, pool pumps, et cetera; these devices, as well as many more, break down, eventually, just like we will, too.

Solar and storage products cannot be excluded from this mortal grouping, for they, too, will break down.

There are 2 types of electricity in our world — DC electricity and AC electricity; most of us use AC electricity throughout our homes. There are 2 kinds of energy solutions on the market — those that combine high-voltage DC and convert it as one giant tsunami to AC for home use, and those like Enphase Energy’s which convert DC electricity at its lowest possible denominator which is at the DC electrical source, itself, the solar panel. Each solution produces the desired result, but Enphase’s is superior in terms of safety, reliability, and longevity.

If you live in one of the many disaster-prone regions of the world, it can be quite scary when disaster strikes.  Living in Hurricane Alley in Florida through Hurricane Irma in 2017, the only words to describe this period was “apocalyptic”; the gas stations closed, Walmart ran out of propane, streets were emptied and energy security was in serious jeopardy.  Whether you believe in climate change or not, weather-related crises seem to be occurring more frequently around the globe, so having a home energy solution that provides true energy security is ideal.

The big promise of going solar is that you’ll enjoy decades of lower utility bills and a smaller carbon footprint. However, these financial and environmental benefits only exist when installing a solar installation that can withstand the test of time. As such, it pays to invest in high quality panels installed by knowledgeable experts who can properly test and configure your system.

Sometimes “traditional” is great: grandma’s casserole, the perfect morning coffee, chocolate chips in your cookies… but when you start to think about home solar, traditional just isn’t good enough.

Let’s take a quick look at some of the biggest downsides of a traditional solar setup.

The Grid Reigns Supreme

Did you know that blackouts cost Americans $180 billion in damage each year? Although short outages are just a minor inconvenience, some outages last many hours or even days. Interruptions can cause basements to flood, pipes to freeze, food to spoil, damage to electronics, and missed work hours. In severe cases, damage can reach tens of thousands of dollars.

If you’re thinking of going solar, where does safety fit into your decision-making process? When you meet potential installers, you’ll likely hear a lot about kWh and PV materials. And you’ll probably also be treated to some calculator-worthy math problems that’ll get you daydreaming of future savings. But does your installer talk about safety?
If you’re opting for traditional solar technology, probably not. And that’s a missed opportunity for an important conversation. When you look at the Enphase home energy solution, you’ll see why safety matters.
