How does noise affect power line communications?

Power Line Communication

Power line noise is interference caused by other devices using the same electrical wiring of a house or building. This interference inhibits Envoy communication with the microinverters. This results in inconsistent production display in Enlighten. Data is not lost; the Envoy is unable to collect data from the microinverters while communication is impaired.

Some common "noise makers" include:  power strips, GFI outlets, dimmer switches, appliances with heavy motors in them like refrigerators or washing machines, security systems, and bad circuit breakers.

For tips on reducing noise, refer to the Troubleshooting section in the Envoy Installation and Operation Manual.
