Colorado battery rebate program reopened with Enphase eligibility

The Colorado Renewable Battery Connect program from Xcel Energy restarted on January 15, 2025.

Eligible homeowners can make the most of their stored solar energy by earning incentives for participation in the Battery Connect program. The upfront incentive is $350/kW of Max Continuous Discharge Power, capped at $5,000/site, with a $100 annual energy bill credit for participating in control events over a period of 5 years.

Enphase IQ Batteries are now eligible for this program and can be included in Renewable Battery Connect applications.

For more information, see the Xcel Energy Renewable Battery Connect page.

Frequently Asked Questions

  • You are eligible if you are working with a solar battery provider at your residence or small business to install an Enphase IQ Battery in Colorado.
  • You agree to allow Xcel Energy to discharge up to 60% of your battery capacity, up to 60 times per year.
  • You maintain the connection of your Enphase battery through a high-speed internet connection, to ensure Xcel can communicate with your battery.
  • Program enrollment is through your solar battery installer. They will submit an interconnection application through the Xcel Energy portal.
  • Xcel will then confirm with Enphase that your battery has been installed and is ready to participate in the program. You will then give Enphase permission to manage your battery as part of the program via the Enphase App.
  • If you have questions about Renewable Battery Connect, contact your Enphase installer or email Xcel at BatteryConnect@xcelenergy.com.
  • An upfront incentive of $350 per kW AC of maximum continuous discharge power, up to $5,000 per application.
  • A $100 annual participation incentive for participating in control events over a period of 5 years.
  • Income qualified and disproportionately impacted customers: $800 per kW AC of Max Continuous Discharge Power, up to 75% of the equipment-only cost. If you believe you are eligible, please verify through the Colorado Residential Renewable Programs Single-Family Residence Income Verification form.
  • Xcel will schedule control events which include the charge and discharge of your battery based on anticipated high demand periods on the electric grid. Events may occur any time of the year, but are typically during the hottest days in the afternoon and evening. Discharge events will have a maximum duration of three hours.
  • Xcel may schedule up to 60 control events per year, and on the other 305 days of the year the battery will operate as you have set it with no intervention from Xcel.
  • After the event is over, there will always be 40% of the battery capacity remaining in each battery and the system will return to your chosen setting.
  • You will not receive advance notice of when a control event will take place. However, during a control event, you will be able to see how your battery is being used by logging into the Enphase App.

The program participation period is 5 years. For participants who unenroll prior to the full 5-year, early termination fees will apply. See Xcel's Renewable Battery Connect Agreement for additional details.

Participating battery systems must be 100% charged with a new or existing on-site solar system.

After a discharge event is over, 40% of the battery system’s capacity (kWh) will remain, and the system will return to the customer setting.

Xcel will mail participating customers a check for the upfront program incentive within 60 days of the battery system receiving Permission to Operate. The annual participation incentive will be paid by Xcel each October in the form of a credit on the participating customer’s Xcel electricity bill.

Enphase is committed to customer experience. Participating customers can email gridservices@enphase.com for dedicated customer service related to the Xcel Colorado Renewable Battery Connect program.
