Duke Energy PowerPair SM Program

Eligible Duke Energy customers in North Carolina can earn valuable incentives for adding Enphase solar and batteries.

Earn upfront incentives to go solar and add backup batteries

The Duke Energy and Duke Energy Progress (i.e., “Duke Energy”) PowerPair program provides valuable upfront incentives to Duke Energy residential electricity customers when they have qualified Solar Plus Batteries systems and are approved by Duke Energy to participate.

Duke Energy customers who install new Enphase Solar Plus Batteries systems with a Duke Energy Trade Ally installer may be eligible for a one-time upfront incentive totaling up to $9,000, depending on the selected installed equipment.

For example, Enphase customers who install 10 kW AC of solar power on their home are eligible for $7,600 as an upfront incentive if they install two IQ Battery 5Ps, and $9,000 if they install three IQ Battery 5Ps.1

In addition, Duke Energy customers who choose the Net Metering Bridge Rider can select to participate in the Duke Energy Power Manager® or Duke Energy Progress EnergyWise® Home battery control programs. Through these battery control programs, participants with IQ Batteries can choose to send their extra, stored power to the grid to help manage electricity demand in exchange for ongoing monthly bill credits, in addition to the one-time upfront PowerPair program incentives. More information about these programs is available on our Duke Energy Battery Control Program page.

All incentive payments and bill credits are the responsibility of Duke Energy. See the Duke Energy PowerPair program website for more details.

Frequently Asked Questions

Customers who want to apply for the PowerPair upfront incentive must work with a Duke Energy-approved installer to submit an Incentive Reservation Application.

If you encounter difficulties applying for your incentive reservation, you can contact the Duke Energy Renewable Service Center at (866) 233-2290 from Monday to Friday, 8 p.m. to 5 p.m., or by email at PowerPair@duke-energy.com.

Eligible systems must be installed by a Duke Energy Trade Ally installer partner. Your installer should provide their Trade Ally ID information. If you’re unsure whether your preferred installer is a Duke Energy Trade Ally, send an email to PowerPair@duke-energy.com for clarification. You can also visit the Find It Duke website and Duke Energy will send you the contact information of four Duke Energy Trade Allies.

Note: Not all Duke Energy Trade Allies install Enphase equipment.

After your Enphase solar and battery system has been installed and you have permission to operate (PTO), you will be able to enroll in the Duke Energy Battery Program, a requirement for eligibility, through your Enphase App. The Enphase App is available for download on the App Store for iOS and Google Play for Android.

First, navigate to the Grid Services section of the Services page. Then, select your utility provider and state, and select your program to view program details. Click Sign Up for Free and follow the short prompts that walk you through the in-app enrollment application steps, including:

  • Complete the Enphase App-based application form:
    • Only key details are required; Enphase will auto-fill known information fields based on your Enphase Account information
    • Ensure the information you submit matches your utility account information (e.g., utility account holder name, email address, account number)
  • Review and accept the applicable legal terms and conditions via digital signature
  • Submit the application

If you apply for and receive approval for the PowerPair upfront incentive, you are eligible to receive up to $9,000 towards your purchase of a new Solar Plus Batteries system based on the size of your system:

  • $0.36/watt AC for solar panel installation up to 10 kW AC
  • $400/kWh for battery storage installation up to 13.5 kWh

Table 1 below summarizes the estimated upfront PowerPair customer incentives for select Enphase solar and battery configurations. Other solar and battery configurations are also eligible, but please note that your total (e.g., solar plus battery) export to the grid cannot exceed 20 kW AC or the estimated maximum monthly demand for your residence, whichever is less, according to North Carolina’s renewable interconnection standard. Ask your installer about using Enphase Power Control (PCS) capabilities to automatically manage your discharge for larger Solar Plus Batteries systems.3

Enphase and other program sponsors have no liability to participants for any loss, damage, cost, or expense incurred as a result of, or in connection with, participation in the program. All incentive payments are the responsibility of Duke Energy.

All incentive payments are the responsibility of Duke Energy Carolinas or Duke Energy Progress. See the Duke Energy PowerPair Program website for more details.

Yes. Enphase has agreed with Duke Energy that 100% of the upfront incentives from Duke Energy will go to the Enphase Solar Plus Batteries system owner.

If you do not already have an Enphase IQ Battery installed, the first step is to contact an Enphase installer to get an accurate quote for your Solar Plus Batteries system. Note that to be eligible for the PowerPair program incentives, your system must be installed by a Duke Energy Trade Ally.

Duke Energy customers enrolled in the PowerPair program can select to participate in Duke Energy Carolina’s Power Manager or Duke Energy Progress’ EnergyWise Home battery control programs.

In addition, you are encouraged to talk with your Enphase installer about additional state and federal battery incentives that may be available. For example, Enphase battery systems qualify for the 30% federal investment tax credit, which means the purchase and installation of your system may qualify for a 30% credit on your federal taxes.

Enphase is committed to the customer experience. Interested or participating customers can email gridservicessupport@enphaseenergy.com for dedicated customer service related to the program or any customer service needs.

We encourage you to visit the Duke Energy PowerPair Program website to learn more about specific program requirements.
