Backup for homes with meter-main combos just got easier

Homes with meter-main combos used to require a separate load panel for backup. Now, the IQ Meter Collar handles MID functionality with a simple install behind the utility meter—no extra hardware, no extra steps.

When working with a meter-main combo, it’s not possible to place the System Controller between the utility meter and the main panel—since they share the same enclosure. To enable backup, installers must move critical loads to a sub-panel and connect the MID there. This workaround adds complexity, time, and cost to the project.

The IQ Meter Collar eliminates the need for a sub-panel in homes with meter-main combos. Installed directly behind the utility meter, it enables disconnection of the entire main panel from the grid—without needing to reroute circuits. That means a faster, cleaner install with fewer components and lower costs.

Supported configurations

Backup functionality can be added to systems with either the IQ Battery 10C or IQ Battery 5P. See the diagrams below for what’s required in each configuration.
