Upgrading an existing Enphase solar system

If you have an Enphase system that’s several years to a decade old—or even older—it will likely contain older Enphase technology that you’d benefit from upgrading.

Here’s how the latest Enphase technology can help.

Upgrading your microinverters

Older solar panels might have older Enphase microinverter technology like our M or S Series. We’ve made quite a few improvements to our technology since then. You can upgrade to our seventh-generation IQ7PD Microinverters, which are more efficient and reliable, with app-level tracking. Plus the clock restarts on a new, full 25-year limited warranty for the microinverters. If you have a system plan from your original installation, that should tell you what kind of panels and microinverters you have.

Upgrading other devices

Older Enphase Energy Systems may require an upgrade to the cell modem plan that keeps the system connected to the Enphase Cloud and the Enphase App. The reason is that beginning back in 2022, AT&T began shutting down their 3G service in the United States—so if you don’t upgrade to 4G or connect your devices to your Wi-Fi network, you may no longer be able to monitor and control your Enphase system.

You may also have an older gateway or other communications devices that you want to modernize. This will make your system smarter and give you app-level control of your solar and batteries, as well as your EV charging if you added an Enphase IQ EV Charger to your system.
