Frequently asked questions
How many IQ8X Microinverters can be connected in one phase?

For 240 V: 10 microinverters per branch.
For 208 V: 9 microinverters per branch.

What is the main difference between IQ8X and IQ8HC Microinverters?

The main difference between the IQ8X Microinverter and IQ8HC Microinverter is the MPPT voltage range. IQ8X Microinverter supports MPPT voltage ranges of 43 V – 60 V, whereas IQ8HC Microinverter supports a lower MPPT voltage range of 29.5 V – 45 V. IQ8X Microinverters are the only choice available when panels have an MPPT voltage range between 40 V to 60 V and short circuit current less than 13 A at highest temperature.

What type of panels is IQ8X Microinverter compatible with?

The IQ8X Microinverter is compatible with panels that have higher output DC voltage: typically, 80 half-cell, 88 half-cell, and 96-cell modules. IQ8X Microinverters are recommended to be paired with panels that have an MPPT voltage range between 40 V to 60 V and a short circuit current less than 13 A.

What is the maximum panel size I can pair with IQ8X Microinverter?

The IQ8X Microinverter is a 384 VA microinverter compatible with panels having a capacity of up to 540 Wp.
No enforced DC/AC ratio and the maximum input power. Modules can be paired as long as the maximum input voltage is not exceeded and the maximum input current of the inverter at the lowest and highest temperatures is respected. See the compatibility calculator at https://enphase.com/installers/microinverters/calculator.

What is the main difference between IQ7X and IQ8X Microinverters?

IQ8X Microinverter supports the latest PV modules that provide higher power output. The IQ8X Microinverter has a peak output power of 384 VA. In comparison, IQ7X Microinverter has a peak output power of 320 VA. Additionally, the IQ8X Microinverter also supports all the IQ8 Series Microinverters features, such as Grid-forming and Sunlight Jumpstart. This enables customers to start installations as PV only and scale as per their requirements to build grid agnostic solutions with IQ8 Series Microinverters.

Are there any special installation instructions for microinverters with integrated MC4 connectors?

There are no special instructions for microinverters with integrated MC4 connectors. Please follow the same installation practices as outlined in the Enphase installation manual.

What are the product numbers of microinverters with MC4 connectors?

This table lists the existing product SKU numbers and their equivalent integrated MC4 connector counterparts.

Is there a difference in cost between microinverters with integrated connectors and microinverters using adapter cables?

No, there is no price difference between the microinverters that have integrated MC4 connectors and those that use adapter cables.

Can the installer reduce the cable slack to connect to the solar panel lead cable?

It doesn't use an external bulkhead adapter, so the overall cable is a bit less. However, module leads are typically 4 to 6 feet long, so the impact is minimal.

Will microinverters requiring MC4 adapter cables be phased out completely?

Yes, all microinverters will eventually have integrated MC4 connectors. We are gradually transitioning each inverter in a phased manner.

Where can I get data sheets for microinverters with integrated MC4 connectors?

Download the data sheets or browse all our technical publications in the Documentation Center.

How should I document model numbers in permits and plan sets?

Enphase recommends installers submit Enphase microinverter model numbers on permits and plan sets using an “-x” in place of either the “-2” or “-M”, and add “where x = 2 or M.”

For example: “Model Number: IQ7-60-x-US, where x = 2 or M” or “IQ8PLUS-72-x-US, where x = 2 or M.”

While ordering microinverters with integrated MC4 connectors, do I get Q-DCC-2 adapter cable too?

Microinverters with integrated MC4 connectors will not be shipped with a Q-DCC-2 adapter cable, as they are no longer necessary.
